The effects of storage temperature and RH, bulb size, cultivar, harvesting date and chemical treatment pre- and postharvest on storage life of onions are reviewed. It is suggested that to prolong storage life and minimize storage losses, bulbs should be kept at low temperature (<15 deg C) and low RH (50-70%). Smaller bulb size, application of maleic hydrazide 10-20 days before harvesting and application of maleic hydrazide or benomyl after harvest are also recommended.
