The problem of coping with increasing demands for food yet eliminating or reducing the use of fungicides to control plant diseases is considered. Without effective fungicide applications there are no guaranteed practices currently available for the marketing of fresh fruit products which are affordable and of high quality. The need for, development and registration of improved, environmentally compatible disease control chemicals for integration with non-chemical procedures to prevent severe losses in crops grown for both domestic and international markets is emphasized.
