The causal organism of soft rot of kiwifruits in the field in Greece was isolated and identified as C. spicifer and its pathogenicity was confirmed using cultivars Bruno and Monty. This is thought to be the first report of C. spicifer causing soft rot of kiwifruit in Greece. The fungus was inactive during cool storage but became active as the fruit were exposed in the markets or became damaged.
