Natural occurrence of mycotoxins, mainly aflatoxins, in India in maize, rice, wheat, other cereals, pulses and oilseeds, dry fruit and spices, milk and milk products, and cattle and poultry feed is discussed. High risk areas in India, probabilities of contamination, research centres for study of mycotoxins in India, regulations, and prevention and control by drying, controlled atmosphere storage, chemical treatment, physical separation of infected grains, detoxification and growing resistant varieties are also considered. Details of aflatoxin limits for various commodities in different countries are tabulated.
