The effect of storage structures and storage periods on the viability of high moisture wheat seeds was investigated. High-moisture wheat was stored in sealed clay bins and plywood bins for 6 weeks; other structures were used as controls. Laboratory studies showed that the m.c. of grain in sealed clay bins remained approx. constant throughout the 6-week period, but in other structures it decreased. However, the temperature of the grain inside the structures increased slowly during the experiment. The viability of re-wetted grain with 23% m.c. fell rapidly after 2,4 and 6 weeks' storage in the different structures.
