Heat treatment effects on Sitodiplosis mosellana and Mayetiola destructor were investigated. Cocooned larvae of S. mosellana were killed by temperatures of 55 deg C or more for 3 min or if held at 52.5 deg C for about 7 min. At 47.5 deg C, some larvae survived for 26 min but were dead when the exposure time was extended to 37 min. There was no difference in mortality between S. mosellana and M. destructor at 50-90 deg C. It is recommended that to kill 100% of both pests, grain should be treated with air at a minimum temperature of 60 deg C for 3 min.
