In 1990 at Ravenna, kenaf was sown on 18 May in rows 45 or 22.5 cm apart. Row width had no significant effect on vegetative development but there was greater uniformity in plant height and stem diameter in narrower than in wider rows. FW yields were 61.1 t/ha with moisture content of 80%. Details are given of the harvesting of the kenaf cut with a mower conditioner and dried in the field before being baled, mown and separated into stem and leaves and dried in the field before baling the fibre only, or cut and loaded and dried in an oven.
