บทคัดย่อ

Existing and prototype machines for the mechanization of gari processing from cassava were compared with traditional methods. It was found that some of the machines were operative and produced comparatively good products, but their costs and technology were out of reach of the average gari producer in West Africa. Some traditional methods were found to be functional and productivity increased with some modifications. Selective appropriate mechanization is proposed where peeling and frying are carried out manually, while internal combustion engine-operated machines are proposed for the grating, pulverization and sieving.
