The results of a 3-year study on the occurrence of field and postharvest diseases of yellow passion fruit, their characteristic symptoms and associated fungi are presented. The field diseases recorded were alternata spot (Alternaria alternata), anthracnose and fruit canker (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides [Glomerella cingulata]), brown spot (A. passiflorae), Septoria spot (S. passiflorae) and soft rot (Rhizopus stolonifer), the last 2 being less common. With the exception of soft rot, the infections occurred only in the fruit skin. A total of 9 postharvest diseases were recorded in samples from local markets, a packing house and stored ripe fruits at ambient conditions in the lab. The most common diseases were anthracnose (G. cingulata), Fusarium patch (Fusarium pallidoroseum), Phomopsis rot and stem-end rot (Phomopsis tersa). Other diseases were Botryodiplodia rot (Botryodiplodia theobromae), Fusarium dry rot (F. moniliforme [Gibberella fujikuroi] var. intermedium), Penicillium rot (Penicillium expansum), Pestalotiopsis brown spot (Pestalotiopsis sp.) and soft rot (R. stolonifer).
