This study was conducted to determine the impact of engaging in a rice processing and marketing enterprise as a component of the business operation of the Turod Multi-Purpose Cooperative in the Philippines. The parameters that were analysed were farmers' income, income distribution and benefits obtained by the cooperative as a business organization. Results of the study revealed that there was an improvement in farmers' income after the introduction of the project, in comparison to the income level before the project. In terms of income distribution, there was greater income inequality among farmer-members before the project was implemented compared to the income earnings during the project. There was no firm evidence to conclude that the rice processing and marketing project had a significant effect on the cooperative's business operations. Nevertheless, non-monetary benefits were identified, such as better skills in paddy procurement, expertise in rice processing and marketing, and entry into the rice marketing business.
