Investigations on the postharvest physiology of some peach varieties grown in Adana.

The postharvest physiology of peach cultivars Blazingold, Cardinal, Redhaven and J. H. Hale was studied in 1987 and 1988. Fruits were stored for 1 or 3 weeks at 0 deg C and 85-90% RH or at room temperature to represent point-of-sale storage conditions. When fruits were transferred to room temperature after cold storage, weight loss, rate of softening and TSS content increased with increasing length of cold storage. Acid contents of fruit decreased continuously. However, these changes were most rapid in fruits stored at room temperature throughout. Precooling in cold water resulted in unsatisfactory quality.
