Fresh Capsicum fruits were artificially inoculated with Aspergillus flavus, Botryodiplodia theobromae and Rhizopus oryzae to investigate the mode of entry of these pathogens into the plant tissue. The fungi gained entrance through wounds and points of attachment of the stalk to the fruit. The rot occurred at 10-40 deg C, while at higher temp., the fruit started to dehydrate which affected the infection process. Protection of Capsicum fruit against injuries during harvest and cold storage are recommended to prevent postharvest decay.
