Studies were carried out on the measurement of CO2 and O2 concentrations resulting from controlled atmosphere storage of fruits and vegetables. CO2 and O2 were measured in a flow system; CO2 measurement was based on infrared absorption and O2 measurement was based on magnetic properties. The composition of gas leaving the test containers was measured over a set period of time (55 min). In the subsequent phase of bypass measurement, which was limited to 5 min, the initial concentrations of CO2 and O2 were measured. Changes in CO2 and O2 concentrations caused by respiration were calculated from the stored mean values of both measuring phases. Control of the system and processing of the data were transferred to an electronic data processing system.
