Imazalil tolerant isolates of Penicillium spp. were recovered from natural spore populations in storage rooms and apples collected from packhouses in Lleida, Spain. The tolerant isolates belonged to the species P. cyaneofulvum, P. variabile, P. rugulosum, P. minioluteum and P. pinophilum. Of the tested strains, 85% were tolerant of imazalil at final concn of 4500-11 000 micro g/ml. Fungicide tolerance was constant with successive subculturing. Of the isolates, 89% caused postharvest decay 10 d after inoculation.
