The survival of P. oryzae [Magnaporthe grisea] on wheat seed under different storage conditions was evaluated during a 12-month period at EMBRAPA-CPAO, Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Four seed samples from Anahuac wheat showing 14, 12, 10 and 6% infection were stored under lab., dry chamber and refrigerator conditions. The blotter test was used for monthly studies of samples. The percentage infection was maintained or slightly decreased when the seeds were stored in the refrigerator or dry chamber. Under lab. conditions, the incidence decreased sharply after 6 months reaching a max. level of 1.5% after 12 months. It is concluded that survival of M. grisea is affected by environmental factors. Low temp. had a beneficial effect on survival.
