Seeds of peas cv. Ramir, P. vulgaris cv. Igolomska and soyabeans cv. Polan were treated with Nexion L [bromophos] either dry or incorporated in a coating of Polycrust. Seeds were tested immediately or after 6 or 12 months storage for germination on various substrates, vigour according to growth and cold tests and seed health. Nexion treatment, alone or with Polycrust, increased germination of all 3 species. Adding an absorbent to the germination medium increased the germination of treated and coated seeds. The vigour of treated and coated seeds was generally higher than that of the controls, and decreased (P. vulgaris and soyabeans) or remained at the same level (peas) during storage. Seed vigour under stress conditions of temperature and moisture was low in P. vulgaris and soyabeans and high in peas. Seed treatment reduced the number of abnormal seedlings and increased the number of healthy ones, but some microorganisms such as Ascochyta still remained after storage.
