A previously developed dehumidification drying system which uses a heat pump to remove moisture from the drying air was used to dry maize seed to compare this drying system to traditional natural gas fired systems and to determine its effect on seed damage levels. Results showed that dehumidification allowed acceleration of the drying process without elevating the temperature, is less expensive to operate than gas fired systems and produces high quality seed.
