Softwood sea buckthorn [Hippophae rhamnoides] cuttings and hardwood cuttings of apple clonal rootstock, black currants, red currants and sea buckthorn were treated with laser radiation before planting. Depending on the species and cultivar, some 20 000 to 150 000 cuttings could be treated per hour. Also, fruits of the cultivar Antonovka Obyknovennaya were treated with laser radiation before storage from Oct. to Apr. Laser treatment stimulated rooting in all species studied, which ranged from 89 to 93%, compared with 14 to 66% in the control. In the storage trials, 73% of laser-treated fruits were marketable after storage until Apr. compared with 53% in the control.
