บทคัดย่อ

Horticultural research in Kenya.

The diversity of Kenya's climatic and geographical regions allows a wide variety of horticultural crops to be grown. In the past, horticultural production has had low overall importance, but in the last decade it has grown greatly and now contributes significantly to the economy. Only recently has horticultural research expanded to include aspects such as cropping systems, cultivar breeding and postharvest handling. Historical developments, significant research on tropical and subtropical fruits and nuts, temperate-zone fruits, small fruits, vegetables, ornamentals and other crops, and current organization and prospects for horticultural research in Kenya are discussed.
