ABSTRACT
Gamma irradiation doses for delaying postharvest decay were determined for apple, quince, onion and peach inoculated with Penicillium expansum, Monilinia fructigena, Botrytis aclada [B. allii] and Rhizopus stolonifer, respectively. Doses of 1, 2, 3 and 3.5 kGy did not give complete control of postharvest decay of fruit, but delayed the infections. The effect of irradiation was also investigated on pathogenicity, cultural characteristics and sporulation of the reisolated fungi. No differences were observed between irradiated and non-irradiated fungi.
