ABSTRACT
Studies were conducted in 1990 and 1991 to investigate the effects of location, climate, cultivar (Golden Delicious and Starking), fruit size and storage conditions on postharvest losses. Overall losses were greater in 1990 than 1991 but there were regional differences in storability. The storability of Golden Delicious fruits was similar to Starking fruits. Smaller fruits stored better than large ones. Percentage losses after storage for 180 days were higher at ambient temperature (0-10 deg C) than in cold storage (0-3 deg ) (17.8 and 12.5% for Golden Delicious and 28.3 and 12.7% for Starking fruits, respectively).
