ABSTRACT
Fruits grown in the USA (California) were treated with a preharvest spray of 10 mg GA3/litre and/or coated after harvest with wax containing 50 mg GA3/litre. Early, mid and late season fruits were shipped over to The Netherlands (Rotterdam) and stored for 2 weeks at 5 deg C followed by one week at 20 deg . The late season fruits in particular had better appearance, fresher calyx, less aging and puffiness and were firmer when treated with GA3 compared with the untreated controls. The combination of pre- and postharvest treatments did not have an additive effect. Decay was negligible in all treatments.
