Membranosis in stored lemon.

ABSTRACT

Membranosis is the most serious physiological disorder of lemons in Italy, preventing their long-term storage. Susceptible cultivars and factors which have affected the incidence of membranosis (mineral status, site, spraying, picking time and maturity) are summarized and the effects of postharvest treatment (waxing, pre-conditioning, storage temperature and duration) are examined. Recent results from tests on ways of decreasing the incidence of the disorder, such as temperature manipulation during storage, CO2 storage and dipping, are discussed.
