Fungal physiology and biochemistry.

ABSTRACT

Aspects of the physiology and biochemistry of plant pathogenic fungi in India are reviewed. Carbon and nitrogen metabolism in fungi are discussed along with vitamin and trace element requirements. The physiology of host-parasite relationships is also discussed. The biochemistry of aflatoxin formation and antibiotic production is described. Enzyme studies, cell wall degradation, postharvest diseases and the exploitation of fungi by biotechnology are considered.
