ABSTRACT
Mango fruit were sampled biweekly at the CENADA wholesale market, the largest in Costa Rica, during the 1990 season. Disease incidence was 64.6% for anthracnose (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides [Glomerella cingulata]), 7.2% for stem-end rot (Lasiodiplodia (Botryodiplodia) theobromae) and 5.2% for fruit rot (Aspergillus sp.). Fruit flies affected 15.8% of fruit. Sapburn was found in 37.5% of fruit, and 48.7% of fruits were mechanically injured. Anthracnose incidence was 14.1% in the dry season (Mar.-Apr.) and 84.4% during the rainy season (May-Jul.). Fruit fly damage was found in 2.5 and 21.1% of fruit in the dry and rainy seasons, respectively. A very low incidence of rots caused by Hendersonula sp., Coniothyrium sp., Pestalotia sp. and Erwinia sp. was found.
