The present state of the recent trends in CA technology and equipment in Russia.

ABSTRACT

Since 1964, 3 Russian institutions have carried out research on controlled-atmosphere (CA) storage: "Giproniselprom", Michurin Research Institute of Horticulture, and Research Institute of Gas Utilization. Experiences with a number of commercial CA stores throughout the former USSR since 1975 are described. Finally, reasons for the use of the open-flame oxygen burner in commercial CA stores are given. At "Agrotechran" in Moscow, absorption cooling equipment is being developed to utilize waste heat produced by generators in CA stores.
