บทคัดย่อ

Postharvest technology and productivity of melons in the State of Rio Grande do Norte.

ABSTRACT

A survey was carried out involving 10 main melon growers in the region. The area under this crop increased from 960 ha in 1988 to 4440 ha in 1992. In 1991 the total yield for the area was 102 235 t and the average yield was 11.65 t/ha, with up to 20 t/ha at some farms. About 35% of the total production is exported. Fruit refrigeration is used by 30% of the growers, and precooling is used by growers who produce the following cultivars: Galia, Bonus, Orange Flesh and Charentais. The most popular cultivars in the region are: Valenciano Amarelo, Piel de Sapo, Galia, Orange Flesh, Bonus, Charentais and Honey Dew.
