ABSTRACT
The influence of 3 localities (Obrenovac, Smederevo and Banatski Brestovac) over 3 years (1981-83) on fruit quality during storage at 0-1 deg C and 85-90% RH was studied. Fruits from Smederevo were larger and had more of a blush than fruits from the other localities mainly due to higher temperatures and rainfall and wider spacing of the trees. Fruits with the blush showed symptoms of scald much earlier than the other fruits. Scald appeared within 5 days after the end of storage and reached 83.88, 74.32 and 56.6% in fruits from Banatski Brestovac, Obrenovac and Smederevo, respectively, 15 days after the end of storage. Overall, storability of fruits was best from Smederevo and worst from Banatski Brestovac and this was attributed to the wide diurnal fluctuations of temperature in the latter locality.
