ABSTRACT
Apricot fruits (cv. Hasanbey) were packed in modified atmospheres (MA) using 50 micro m low density polyethylene (LDPE) film either in air (passive MA modification) or after flushing with 3% O2 + 3% CO2 (active MA modification) and stored at 0 deg C. The control fruits were not packed. Control fruits could only be stored for 4 weeks while both MA treatments increased the storage life to 6 weeks. The loss in textural properties of the fruits after 6 weeks' storage was 40% for the passive MA and 68% for the active MA treatment. The smallest changes in pH and total acidity were observed in the passive MA treatment and this treatment was considered more suitable than the active MA treatment.
