ABSTRACT
Rose hips are an important economic source of vitamin C [ascorbic acid]. The optimum time for picking in Palmir (Tajikistan) is at the beginning of Sep.; hips picked one month later contained 20% less vitamin C. Frosts also reduced the vitamin C content. Drying after harvest was one of the most important factors for preserving the quality of the raw material and reducing losses due to spoilage. A moisture content of <15% was recommended and packing the hips in baskets, carton crates or sacks was suitable for long-term storage.
