ABSTRACT
Anna apple fruits were dipped in 3% CaCl2 or vacuum infiltrated with 3% CaCl2. Other fruits were taken from trees sprayed 3 times with 0.5% CaCl2 (at approx. 3-weekly intervals beginning about 20 days after petal fall). All fruits were stored at 4 deg C for 50 days. Vacuum infiltration with CaCl2 resulted in the firmest fruits with the lowest respiration rates at the end of storage. Dipping in 3% CaCl2 gave the next best results. Spraying the trees with CaCl2 had no effect on firmness or respiration rate.
