Genetic manipulation of plants to improve postharvest disease resistance.

ABSTRACT

Following a brief introduction, the first part of this review considers some of the current technology used in genetic engineering including Agrobacterium-mediated transfer, protoplast fusion, electroporation, microinjection, biolistics and virus vectors. In the second section, possible uses of this technology in the development of postharvest disease-resistant transgenic plants are discussed.
