A review of postharvest disinfestation of cut flowers and foliage with special reference to tropicals.

ABSTRACT

Current postharvest approaches to insect disinfestation of cut flowers and foliage (hand removal of insects, gamma irradiation, fumigation, insecticidal dips, cold storage, hot water treatment, vapour heat treatment, controlled atmosphere storage and the use of biological control agents) are reviewed. The advantages, disadvantages and status of each method are discussed with examples provided.
