ABSTRACT
Inflorescences of cultivars Oberon and Ballerina were held in silver thiosulfate (STS, 0.2 mmol AgNO3 and 1.6 mmol Na2S2O3.5H2O) solution for 24 h and then transferred to distilled water. FW, water uptake, conductivity of holding water, floret opening and vase life were greater but transpiration, respiration and membrane permeability were lower in STS-treated inflorescences compared with non-treated inflorescences held in distilled water. Floret petal tissues of STS-treated inflorescences held for 7 days in distilled water displayed fewer ultrastructural changes than cells from non-treated inflorescences held in distilled water.
