ABSTRACT :
In an experiment with cv. Thompson Seedless grapevines grown in an vineyard at Rahuri, plants were sprayed with CaCl2 (0.6 or 1.0%), 10 days prior to harvest. The following parameters were measured: fruit TSS, acidity, and reducing sugar and non-reducing sugar concentrations, at harvest and after 4, 8, 12 and 16 days of storage in boxes under ambient conditions. Physiological weight loss during storage was also determined. Results are tabulated. Grapes treated with 0.6% CaCl2 had a longer shelf life than the untreated controls (16 and 10 days, respectively); this treatment also gave the highest organoleptic rating and the lowest level of physiological weight loss.
