ABSTRACT :
The options for reducing the use of postharvest chemicals in crop storage are outlined. Four approaches are identified: continuation of present practices, total elimination of chemicals, effective use of chemicals, and use of naturally occurring chemicals. Emphasis is placed on the engineering inputs of better ventilation, live controlled atmosphere, tighter into-store grading, grain cooling, total fumigation and in-line chemical application.
