ABSTRACT :
A study was conducted during 1980-90 in Kollam and Kannur districts of Kerala state, India, to investigate the role of farm women in mixed farming. A total sample of 256 farm women was selected, covering four farm categories (large, small and marginal farms, and agricultural labourers). Farm women often performed roles such as kitchen gardening, postharvest operations and management and care of animals. Female agricultural labourers often performed field-oriented tasks. Women participated in decision making in the areas of seed selection, produce storage, choice of crops, care and management of animals, and number of animals reared.
