Studies on postharvest physiology and technology of storage and transport of Yu-Lu peach fruits.

ABSTRACT :

Yu-Lu peach fruits were harvested at 70-80% ripeness. Senescence was rapid, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity decreased markedly and ethylene production peaked after 3 days at room temperature, when ripeness was reached. Storage at 3 deg C produced firmer fruits, higher superoxide dismutase activity and a delayed peak of ethylene production. Fruits pretreated at 3 deg for 1-3 days ripened normally at room temperature with no loss of quality. Fruits packed in polyethylene foam and corrugated paper boxes showed reduced injury and decay and prolonged shelf-life compared with fruits packed in traditional bamboo baskets.
