Postharvest behaviour of avocado fruit (cv. Hass) in relation to harvest date.

ABSTRACT :

 

Fruits of this cultivar, harvested on 16 Oct., 15 Jan. or 19 Mar., were held in ambient conditions (20 plus or minus 2 deg C and 50-60% RH) until eating maturity was reached. Fruit respiration, changes in firmness, weight loss, DW, and changes in peel colour were assessed. The data are presented in graphs, histograms and tables. Fruits harvested in Oct. and Mar. showed a shorter storage life and reached eating maturity earlier than those harvested in Jan. Among the parameters studied, peel colour and fruit DM content were both correlated with fruit maturity at harvest.
