ABSTRACT :
The phytoalexin scoparone (6,7-dimethoxycoumarin), generally absent (or at a level below detection) in flavedo citrus fruits, was found after heat treatment at 36 deg C for 72 h (curing) in Tarocco orange inoculated with P. digitatum. It is concluded that induction of this phytoalexin, also found in other citrus species, is a defence reaction in response to the pathogenic attack.
