Investigation on the causal factor of tiger skin disease in dried chilli.

ABSTRACT :

 

A disease named "tiger skin" occurred in 10-30% of dried chilli in Beijing, China. Diseased chilli [Capsicum] could not be used for extracting pigment. Some isolates were obtained from culture of diseased chilli on PDA. The following isolates were obtained on PDA: Alternaria alternata; Penicillium sp.; Cladosporium sp.; Fusarium sp. and Colletotrichum piperatum. Storing fruits in a room resulted in a lower incidence of disease (2.1%) than storage in the open fields (97.9% disease incidence). It is suggested that "tiger skin" disease is caused by physiological factors.
