ABSTRACT :
The New South Wales waratah (Telopea speciosissima), which is the State's floral emblem, is valued both as a garden plant and for cut-flower production. In high density plantings, yields can be as high as 20 000-50 000 blooms [area not stated] produced annually after 5 years. However, heavy cropping depends on the use of selected clonal material, optimum environmental conditions and good cultural practices. Market returns vary widely. After establishment, a planting should remain productive for 30-40 years. Detailed advice is given on germinating seeds, raising seedlings, propagation by cuttings of selected clones, selection of soils and planting sites, cultural requirements and postharvest handling of cut flowers.
