ABSTRACT :
Experiments were conducted to measure the energy required by various units of a 0.5-t/h capacity PHCT rice mill. Energy consumption for the cleaner, sheller, polisher, aspirator, grader and elevators were measured at no load and at 60, 80 and 100% of its rated capacity. Milling of raw and parboiled Kabiraj Shal rice was observed. Energy consumption for parboiling and drying the rice was calculated from the results of earlier research and was assumed to be 358.38 and 745.76 MJ per tonne of rice, respectively, at an optimum feed capacity of 0.471 t/h. It was found that the total energy required for parboiling, drying and milling was 1190.98 MJ per tonne of rice.
