Combustion technology demands imposed on solid biomass.

ABSTRACT :

 

Under Finnish conditions hay or straw have the most potential as energy sources and are unlikely to encounter obstacles in combustion technology. Problems and potential of burning these crops are discussed with reference to small-scale boilers; large units such as fluidized bed plants; harvesting, storage, drying and briquetting; physical and chemical properties. Developments in harvesting technology and mechanical post-harvest treatment are essential to improve the economics of harvesting, storage and transportation.
