ABSTRACT :
Ortaline is the name used in Morocco for ortaniques. In 1993, ortaniques grown in Morocco exhibited problems during marketing which were serious enough to compromise the Maroc label. Fruits exhibited a range of visual deformities (wrinkled skins, fasciation, sponginess, oleocellosis etc.) and were attacked by Penicillium digitatum and P. italicum. These problems arose as a consequence of many interrelated factors. Pre- and postharvest techniques are discussed which it is suggested will preclude this major catastrophe recurring.
