An innovative approach is proposed for combining the data from different kinds of sensor for fruit quality assessment, particularly for melons. Available sensor fusion techniques that can be applied to achieve this task are described, and applications of some selected techniques were performed on 1 melon cultivar. Classification made by an expert was used as a reference and compared to the destructive and non-destructive sensor measurements. Sensor fusion is applied at the feature level. Applied techniques include discriminant analysis and neural network classifiers. Comparisons between the different techniques and between individual sensor performance and the fusion performance were made.
