Galia melons exported from Israel to Europe are coated with wax containing 2000 p.p.m. imazalil to protect fruit against the decay fungi Alternaria alternata and Fusarium spp. The treatment leaves a residue of 3-5 p.p.m. imazalil on fruit, an amount exceeding the 0.5 p.p.m. tolerance set by some European countries. An alternative treatment (iprodione (as Rovral) + thiabendazole (as TBZ), each at 1000 p.p.m. in wax) was more effective than imazalil.
