A paprika harvester prototype was tested on spherical fruit varieties with losses of 3-5%. Harvesting of non-spherical fruits required minor modifications. During 1993, a full-scale industrial machine was built, regulated and tested in the 3 main paprika growing regions in Spain: Murcia, Extremadura and Valle del Ebro. Results show that for tall plants with spherical fruits, losses were 3% of production, for shorter plants losses were 6%, and for shorter plants with non-spherical fruits losses were 9% (reduced to 5% by redesigning the conveyors).
