บทคัดย่อ

Simulation of bulk apple handling to determine bruising levels.

 

Orchard bin vibration measurements made during forklift handling using Environmental Data Recorders (EDR) were used in laboratory trials to simulate the events in a controlled and repeatable manner. A bin full of Braeburn apples was placed on a vibration table, which was controlled by a servo-hydraulic system. During the simulation, 3 low profile load sensors were placed in different positions inside the bin. Results show that the vertical compression forces between apples varied significantly, depending on the location inside the bin. The force spectra obtained correlated well with the acceleration spectra recorded by the EDR. Bruising levels recorded were considerably higher than those typical in a handling system, primarily due to the compressed signal enabling the simulation of an extended handling situation.
