The effects of low light intensity on the pigmentation of petals of cut flowers and pot plants of Eustoma grandiflorum were studied. Under a high light intensity, no differences in petal colour intensity were found between cut flowers and pot plants. When flowers opened under a low light intensity, petal colour became lighter in both commodities. Shading of flower buds during the flowering process had no effect on petal colour intensity. Shading of the stem and leaf parts diminished petal colour. The petal colour of detached flowers intensified as the sucrose concentration in the vase water increased from 0 to 0.5 M. The reduction of petal colour in low light conditions possibly resulted from restricted photosynthesis.
